hanover hosted a breakfast briefing on 8th September 2009 to discuss how the NHS and pharmaceutical and medical technology industries can form successful partnerships to enhance the delivery of healthcare.
The Royal College of Physicians' 2009 report, 'Innovating for Health', warned that the medical profession and industry needed to resolve their differences in order to achieve future advances in the quality of patient care. The Office for Life Sciences blueprint also recognised the need for NHS and industry to work more closely in the uptake of innovation. And with increased financial pressure and greater demands on the health service, industry needs to find ways to help the NHS deliver on the new Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) agenda.
Three leading speakers, Mike Farrar, Chief Executive of NHS North West, Professor Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians and Dr Gordon Coutts, Vice-President and General Manager of Schering-Plough UK offered their views on the growing number of NHS and Industry partnerships, and what the future holds for them, and answered questions from the audience.
