On 1 December 2009 hanover hosted a breakfast briefing in London to discuss how businesses, consumers and government can work together to ensure an effective regulatory framework across all consumer facing industries.
If regulation is framed in the right way it can encourage competition and protect vulnerable consumers. However, badly framed regulation can stifle both innovation and social responsibility. It is all the more important to strike the right balance in a recession. This event discussed the Conservative approach in this area, as recently outlined in John Penrose MP's policy paper 'Regulation in the Post-Bureaucratic Age'.
