Michael brings together his experience in national journalism and the higher reaches of the FTSE 100 to  work across our business, offering senior communications and political counsel to a wide array of global clients.

As Corporate Affairs Director at BT, Michael was involved in several initiatives aimed at transforming the business. He helped to launch and shape the brand image of BT Sport; and was part of the team which won regulatory support for the merger with mobile operator EE. He was also instrumental in brokering agreement with government over the state-backed rollout of rural superfast broadband. He had to anticipate and manage countless media and political issues at a company often embroiled in controversy as it delivers services across more than 170 countries.

Before BT, Michael was Managing Director of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at global PR company Weber Shandwick. He broadened the division’s client base considerably, and himself advised organisations including Virgin Media, Balfour Beatty, British Nuclear Fuels, MasterCard, IKEA, air traffic control body NATS and numerous universities. He also advised high net worth individuals and Hollywood stars on sensitive disputes.

Michael spent 17 years as a journalist, ten of them at the Sunday Times, where he served as chief political correspondent and then political editor. He appeared frequently on national radio and television during this time, and had a regular Radio 2 spot on Michael Parkinson’s weekly show.
