The UK Government is now one step closer to bringing its own medicines and medical devices legislation into UK law. When the UK leaves the European Union, the UK will continue to apply the EU legislative framework that relates to human medicines, veterinary medicines and medical devices. As it stands, the UK Government has no legal mechanism to amend this legislation. It was therefore necessary for the Government to develop a bridging Bill which confers powers to be able to make amendments to UK regulations. The Medicines and Medical Devices Bill 2019/20 has now sailed through the House of Commons with relative ease and at breakneck pace.
