Award-winning agency group Hanover Communications has bolstered its corporate offering with the hiring of Gary Cleland as Deputy Managing Director of its Corporate Practice.
Cleland’s appointment comes as Hanover continues its sustained growth story, and is part of an ongoing investment programme to make its Corporate Practice best in class within the industry.
Gary, a former national newspaper journalist with 15years experience in media, corporate communications and issues management, joins from Cohn & Wolfe, where he led the agency’s annual relationship with Barclays and Barclaycard. Prior to that he held senior roles at Edelman and MHP.
Gary will report to Gavin Megaw, and will lead the Hanover Corporate Practice on a day-to-day basis, broadening the group’s fast-growing technology and financial communications capabilities.
“I’m thrilled to join such a smart, dynamic team,” comments Gary. “I’m already hugely impressed by the clarity of thought, the creativity and the energy at every level at Hanover. We have all the tools we need to continue to expand in London and beyond, and I’m glad to be on board for what’s going to be an exciting, fun time for the team.”
Gavin Megaw, Managing Director of Corporate and Brand at Hanover and Chairman of The Playbook, added: “We have been searching for the hottest strategic communications talent to take up this important role. Gary was the outstanding candidate in that process. His strategic approach, campaign mindset and cultural fit meant he was a direct match to our aspirations. His appointment to this newly-created role comes at a crucial time for Hanover as we continue to invest to realise our ambition of becoming the best in class corporate reputation agency around. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the team and look forward to working together as we move into the next stage of corporate growth.”
